No. 7 – SecureState

SecureState – Ken Stasiak, CEO

Q: Give us an example of a business challenge your organization faced, as well as how you overcame it.

A business challenge our organization faces is the evolution of security. We have to continuously recreate our offerings and what we provide to our clients. It takes a good race and pace to keep up with the industry, from technology to regulatory changes – it’s a very fluid field.

We overcome this challenge by following the mantra, “change-embrace it.” We’ve developed a culture that constantly pushes itself and the organizations we work with when they are challenged. SecureState is almost self healing in identifying a problem and creating a resolve to it. This doesn’t apply to just management; the entire company is pulled upon to identify issues and find ways to work around them. We effortlessly adapt to changing business climates to ensure ongoing successful business outcomes.

Q: In what ways are you an innovative leader, and how does your organization employ innovation to be on the leading edge?

By the nature of the industry we are in, you have to be innovative; this is especially true in the leadership aspect. For me, it’s understanding the vision of where we have been and where we want to go. We’re hackers, so technology is often thrust upon us requiring an aspect of innovation that comes naturally to us. Taking those innovations and putting them into practice is what gives us an edge.

Q: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned and how have you applied it?

One of my favorite lessons is based off the line, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.” The information security field is extremely fast paced, rapidly changing, and no one wants to keep up with it. This gives us a push to do the best, resulting in our competitive edge. The easiest road may be simpler to navigate, but there is a lot more traffic. Sometimes the path not as well traveled has more bridges to bear.

Q: How does your organization make a significant impact on the community and regional economy?

We do everything we can to support the local community by positioning our business for growth. We are in the process of completing an 18,000 square feet renovation, investing over $2 million in the project. SecureState’s team is dedicated to supporting its community. By staying involved with special programs and services, SecureState has contributed to the community through education, service, and donations.

SecureState strives to make a difference in the lives of children in need. SecureState offers security assessments at a special discounted rate for our clients, and all of the proceeds go to a local children’s charity. Our Keep ‘em Safe Program is designed to educate parents and children about the safe way for children to use the Internet.

We also raise money for local animal shelters and hold free seminars for the public. For a small company, we do everything that we possibly can do to give back to the community. Plus, we take very good care of our employees.  We maintain competitiveness in compensation and benefit practices while also showing appreciation for employees by offering unique perks such as company cook outs, parties, and a focus on a work hard, play hard attitude.
