Q: Give us an example of a business challenge your organization faced, as well as how you overcame it.
In 2009 and 2010, Optiem had the challenge of how to evolve our service offerings to meet the demands of the marketplace. Optiem was initially founded to leverage the emerging marketing communications power of email and has now grown into a fully integrated internet marketing company.
After a company assessment and reorganization, Optiem’s management developed a family of offerings referred to as The Adcom Group of Companies. Under this group of companies resides Adcom Communications, Inc., Optiem LLC and Uppercut Motion and Sound. Together, the three integrated brands provide focused, creative solutions across all forms of media.
At The Adcom Group of Companies, we’ve built the modern communications model. From marketing communications strategy and production, to internet marketing and development, to video content and broadcast production, our integrated teams provide focused creative solutions across all media platforms.
The diversity of our companies offers a well-balanced blend of talent and experience; from seasoned veterans to fresh out-of-the-box thinkers. What is important to us is harnessing an ever-morphing set of tools to help build and grow real value for our clients.
Q: In what ways are you an innovative leader, and how does your organization employ innovation to be on the leading edge?
As our company continues to grow at a rapid pace, we make it a top priority to understand the market needs. Our employees are on the forefront of the latest emerging technology. We encourage and support our team members to learn cutting edge techniques that will ultimately improve our clients’ bottom lines. Employees attend local and national conferences to learn new tools and techniques to compete in the growing, marketing world.
To continue to stay on the leading edge, we developed a formal training program for our account executives. The AE of the Future training program prepares our account service team members to represent the company with the most strategic thinking and provides them with ongoing training to continue to serve as innovative leaders in the marketplace.
Q: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned and how have you applied it?
While our company has evolved over the years, our culture continues to be driven by smart, professional, energized people that display confidence and motivation. We have learned how important it is to hire good, talented people. Our interview process includes the team members that will be working with the potential hire. It’s important to include the department members throughout the interviewing as they will be potentially working with them every day.
We train and support growth within the company and encourage our employees to learn and expand their skill sets. Many of our employees started at the company as interns and with our managers’ mentoring, they are now strong team leaders.
Q: How does your organization make a significant impact on the community and regional economy?
As a company, it is important for us to develop and lead innovative projects and programs for our community. We created the Darnell Jackson Mentoring Challenge website (http://www.djmentoringchallenge.com/) to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland. The goal of the challenge is to get 100 mentors to sign up to be a Big Brother or Sister and to raise $100,000 to support and grow the 100 mentor/child matches. The project has been very successful for the children of Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
The Adcom Group and the American Red Cross recently teamed up to produce a video documentary to share the inspirational and incredibly touching stories of real life heroes in Cleveland – http://vimeo.com/16937431. The video was a huge success at this year’s American Red Cross Cleveland Heroes Award Luncheon.
Our management team is also active in several charitable organizations, and as a company we support those organizations with marketing projects when needed. We recently created a new website for St. Malachi Center – http://www.stmalachicenter.org/. Our user experience team designed and developed the website that helps St. Malachi Center serve their constituents, extend their message to the community and to reach out to donors for support.
