Etactics Inc. – Michael Teutsch, president & general manager
Q: Give us an example of a business challenge your organization faced, as well as how you overcame it.
As a software company, our programming and IT resources were originally grouped into one department. As we grew, it became apparent that new software products needed to be developed in different ways and by different people from those who originally helped make the company successful. In order to achieve the desired results and solve this issue we created a separate R&D department funded by 5 percent of our revenues. Now, our separate business units can source new products or significant enhancements through our R&D department.
Q: In what ways are you an innovative leader, and how does your organization employ innovation to be on the leading edge?
I believe that in order for Etactics to continue to achieve its goals, innovative spirit must permeate the entire company. My job as president is to nurture our staff and assist in refining the ideas so that we can deliver products and services that truly impact our customers. I believe that continued success comes from our consistent approach to serve our clients with improved solutions not because we came up with one great idea.
Q: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned and how have you applied it?
The greatest lesson I have learned is that all people need more management than you think that they do. We must set goals and objectives at every level that are measured and communicated more effectively.
Q: How does your organization make a significant impact on the community and regional economy?
Our company has grown substantially over the past 10 years. We impact our clients by assisting them to improve their operational efficiencies significantly. This allows them to serve their customers in a more cost effective manner with more productive and happier employees. For our health care clients, this reduction in stress for both providers and patients makes the entire system work more smoothly.
We impact our economy in a significant way by retaining some of best and brightest people in Ohio. Additionally, about 80 percent of our revenue enters Ohio from our out of state clients. We estimate that the business we bring into the state has directly created at least 20 jobs in Northeast Ohio in addition to the number Etactics’ direct employees.
