Q: What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned and how have you applied it?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that if you are not happy doing what you are doing, then do something else. This simple and somewhat cliché philosophy leads to a very high performance team culture.
One of our corporate values is “Energy,” which we explain as striving to end the work day with more energy and vigor than what you began with. This requires team members to be sitting in roles they thoroughly enjoy. A high level of personal awareness is required to accomplish this.
We start new employees with training around the different types of strengths that exist in both our world and our company; we then nurture self awareness through openness, mentoring and peer feedback.
In conjunction with self awareness, our organization also provides clear job expectations and clarity around roles and boundaries. Because our company and people are constantly growing and evolving, we recognize the need to constantly recalibrate and tweak roles and responsibilities in ways that allow both the team member and the company to flourish.
By focusing on creating a workplace that gives people energy rather than suck the life out of people, we have created a monster, a happy monster that customers love.
